- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 3 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water until well combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream to soft peaks, then fold in sliced strawberries.
- Once the cakes are cool, layer them with the whipped cream and strawberries.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
- Letting the cake sit for a few hours enhances the flavor.
