Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until smooth.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Divide dough in half and shape into logs. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Slice the chilled logs into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  9. Let cool on wire racks.

Notes

  • For variations, add nuts or different types of chocolate chips.
  • You can also sprinkle sea salt on top before baking for an added flavor.
