Ingredients

  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and flour; mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Divide the dough into pieces and shape into pretzels.
  7. Boil water with baking soda, then dip each pretzel for 30 seconds.
  8. Place on baking sheet, brush with egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a sweeter pretzel, add a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar after baking.
