Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cake pan by greasing it.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in the toffee bits and chopped nuts if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
