- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
- 12 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Heat milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling, then gradually mix into the egg mixture.
- Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before folding in the mascarpone cheese.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
- Mix espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Dip ladyfingers briefly into the mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Sift cocoa powder over the top before serving.
Notes
- Serve chilled for the best texture and flavor.
- For an extra kick, substitute some of the espresso with amaretto.
