Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
  • 12 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  2. Heat milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling, then gradually mix into the egg mixture.
  3. Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring until it thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before folding in the mascarpone cheese.
  5. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
  6. Mix espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Dip ladyfingers briefly into the mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  10. Sift cocoa powder over the top before serving.

  • For an extra kick, substitute some of the espresso with amaretto.
